U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crews perform annual maintenance cleaning of the large locks at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard on Friday, November 18, 2022. The 55-foot deep chamber is drained of water so workers can scrape barnacles and perform other tasks. The large locks will be closed for maintenance from November 8-24th however the small lock remains open for vessels less than 120 feet in length and 26 feet in width. The annual maintenance is important to keep the 105-year-old Chittenden Locks safe and operational for years to come.
